With organic reach declining for many pages, Facebook ads can be an effective way to put your brand in front of potential customers.

Creating your first paid Facebook advert can feel like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. Following these tips will help you on your way to seeing results from your ads.

1. Decide on your marketing objective

When you create a campaign on Facebook you get the opportunity to pick a marketing objective. If you hover over any of the options you will get an explanation of each objective and what it will do for you.

Facebook Marketing Objectives

‘Traffic’ will show your advert to people who are more likely to click through to a destination, e.g. your website or the ‘Reach’ objective will show your advert to the maximum amount of people.

It all depends on what you would like your advert to achieve.

2. Find your target audience

Without knowing who your target audience is it will be a struggle to target your advert. Facebook wants to know things such as; what location you would like your advert shown in, the age of people to show it to, their gender etc.

Facebook Targeting

If you don’t know this information already you can find it in your Facebook insights.

You can get lots of useful information such as the age, gender and location of people who have seen content from your page. If you are an online business you can target a specific location or a whole country, if you have a physical store it would be best to target the area your store is based.

3. Create engaging content

There are a number of different formats you can create your ad in, it’s always a good idea to have a play around with what one you think would work best for you. If you have different images to show; a carousel or slideshow advert would be best to use. If you have created a video you can use the single video format.

4. Use a C-T-A

A call to action will help the effectiveness and improve the results of your adverts. For example, when we didn’t use a CTA we were getting about 450 link clicks a month and now using a CTA we get over 3,500.

Depending on the preferred outcome will dictate which call to action will work best. If you are directing people to a podcast then use the ‘Listen Now’ CTA, if you are advertising a service you want people to book, use ‘Book Now’.

5. Edit your ad in real time

While your advert is running it is always best to keep an eye on how well it is performing. You can then adjust things such as your target audience, the budget, schedule and so much more.

It will help if you have created a few adverts before so you have something to compare it to. It will take a bit of experimentation to find what will work best for you and your ads.

Mixing up the elements such as text copy or image, then removing the underperforming advert will be the best way to do this.
